Well-point Systems are the most commonly used method of pumping water for dewatering.
What is a well-point
Well-point is a drainage system of points 1 / 1.5 m long and 6-7 m deep, connected through a collector to a pump with an electric motor or a diesel engine as well as a vacuum pump. At depths above 6/7 m additional pumping points are installed.
When is it used
Well-point pumps are often the most sensible and economical option in the presence of loose soils with medium and high permeability. In the case of gravelly soil, it is recommended to install drainage wells with pumps placed inside them.
Where should you use it
The dewatering of the soil in point pumping (well-points) allows the execution of projects in the presence of water, with low cost and consolidated results over time. It is the fastest and cheapest method for draining the aquifer.
The point pumping system causes the temporary reduction of the aquifer in order to carry out dry excavations in the subsoil in the most practical and economical way.
The essence of the process is basically the pumping of water from the subsoil through a set of filtration ends that lead to the ground at a depth greater than that of the bottom of the excavation.
They are connected to each other by a set of horizontal manifolds to which a suction pump equipped with a vacuum pump belongs.
The bendable hoses connected to the lifting hoses that are fixed to the ground at the desired depth are removed from the horizontal manifolds at a variable distance.
At the end of the pipe, a filter is placed that allows the suction of water without removing the solid particles of the soil.
A properly installed system stabilizes wet soils to a depth of 5m allowing any work on dry ground.
Additional stages can be installed if the excavation is deeper.
The well-point system consists of a series of pumping points that are usually placed along or around the dugout.
All pumping points are connected to a central line which, with the help of an electric or diesel centrifugal pump, assisted by a vacuum pump (under pressure), pumps the liquid from the ground.
The aforementioned pressure causes the water in the ground to pass to the pump through the piping, transporting it to another part of the ground approved by the study.
There is a water and air flow control valve at all pumping points.
